Espresso and Matcha's Foodie Odyessy - Melbourne Day 9 Afternoon Tea : Zumbos

On the topic of recommendations, the guy who recommended that we go to Pellegrinis also suggested that we ought to go to Adriano Zumbos for dessert. Whilst we did not have the time to trek down to South Yarra, we managed to stop by their Emporium store for afternoon tea. Expecting a cafe style setting, I was surprised at the lack of tables and chairs.

Nevertheless, the assortment of cakes and macaroons on offer really captivated us.

We made our selection and took it away to hunt for a table.

We ended up finding a table at the food court, and I sent my companion off to find some coffees for us to enjoy the cakes.

We had one cake and two macaroons to share between the two of us.

This was the limited edition Easter Pause II, which comprised of a chocolate pate friable base, chocolate sponge, mascarpone mousse, strawberry & pink grapefruit jelly. Despite all the mention of chocolate, it turned out to be quite light in taste, especially with the delightful mascarpone mouse, which was the highlight of the piece. The strawberry chocolate decorations were absolutely adorable, and the base gave it some much needed substance.

I had the fairy bread macaroon, whilst my companion had the strawberry macaroon. The fairy bread option came with delightful sprinkles, but quite a strong smooth buttery texture inside, which really reminded us of fairy bread. Whereas the strawberry one was smooth, fragrant and very fresh, with a crispy exterior shell and a soft creamy filling.
