Story Bridge 75 Anniversary - Eat Street on the Bridge

Yesterday happened to be July 5. 7/5, which also happened to be the 75th Anniversary of the opening of the Story Bridge. The Council decided that it would be a nice way to celebrate this occasion by moving Eat Street onto the bridge for a day. Despite tickets going at an exceptionally quickly, my companions and I were lucky enough to get tickets to attend. So similar to my post on the World Food Markets from last year, I will post a series of photos I took on the day, with relatively short commentary on the food.

I received my tickets in the mail last week. Was rather impressed that it was registered post too.

Arrived at the CBD to find a line up to get on the shuttle buses.

We arrived at Fortitude Valley, on the northern end of the bridge.

We arrived to see the people from the last session (red lanyards) leaving.

We had to go through security and get our bags checked.

The food stalls were on one side of the bridge, whilst the other side had tables to eat once you purchased your food.

We started off with a Nutella crepe. The crepe itself wasn't freshly made, but I understand that due to time constraints, that was probably wise. The crepe was nice and thin, and the strawberry was sweet. The ice cream was pretty average though.

We had the pulled pork from Little Back. The pork was tender and juicy, but there wasn't really enough for the large amount of corn chips we were given.

Walking to the southern end, we had the Langos. I always love having langos at eat street, so it was no different at Story Bridge. The pastry itself was nice and fried, the heat melted the cheese on top, but the salsa ensured that the langos was nicely balanced out by the fresh tomato and onion.

We also had a mango and strawberry soda, which was refreshingly cool on the day.

We were also rather captivated by the sweet smell of churros. Without much doubt, we got one to share. It was warm and fluffy on the inside, and crunchy on the outside. The chocolate dipping sauce was quite comforting too.

Before leaving, we also decided to try out the German Sausages. I liked the toasty bratwurst, which was homey and delicious.

LTD Espresso - Fortitude Valley

Being quite an avid fan of coffee and other caffinated drinks, one of the things which I am always on the hunt for are cafes that serve great coffee. So when a very close friend suggested that Ltd espresso was the place I was looking for, I went to give it a shot.

Ltd Espresso is situated on Brunswick Street, and I got here Friday afternoon after work.

The store was quite small, but thankfully also half empty that day. I noticed most patrons got takeaway and didn't stay.

I found the barista to be one of the friendliest I'd ever encountered, he took the time to explain the intricacies of the specific blends and we really appreciated that.

My friend enjoyed the coldbrew, which was nicely chilled. He commented that the coffee didn't have the regular sour after taste that other ice coffees have, so that was a definite plus.

I had the cappuccino, which I found velvety and smooth. I particularly liked how the cocoa wasnt excessive, but rather a subtle garnish which complemented the coffee well.

The second time I went, I tried the filter coffee. The blend of the week was PNG blend. I enjoyed the bitterness of the coffee without the acidic sour aftertaste. It had a very full bodied fragrant smell and was a really enjoyable way to round off the week.

My companion also enjoyed the sourdough, which was nicely toasted and served with peanut butter. She said it was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, which was very comforting and delicious.

Victory Hotel - Brisbane CBD

On my quest to try steaks near my workplace, one of the places which I've heard quite a number of mixed reviews about was The Victory. Opinions from different people I've spoken to have been very divided, some claim its the best steak in Brisbane, whilst some say its quite horrible. After hearing such conflicting information, I thought it would probably be best to try it myself to find out whether it was indeed good or bad once and for all.

Situated on the corner of Edward Street, a stone throw away from Le Bon Choix's new premises, it was a short 5 minute walk from work.

I ordered my meal, and was given a buzzer. There was a bit of confusion with getting the drink, but in the end it was sorted out.

I tried the lunch special, being the 12 Hour Slow Cooked Prime Rib served with Caesar Salad and Chips. In terms of the sides, I could thoroughly say that I was impressed. Other pubs dont offer Caesar on the side, which is by far my favourite salad, and the chips were nicely seasoned with herbs. Aside from that though, I found the steak quite horrible. It was tough, dry and hard. Even the pepper sauce couldn't really salvage it. I was really quite disappointed.

My companion ordered the 200g Graziers Rump. Having heard my complaints about my steak, he offered me some of his. Whilst I found his steak to be rather thinly cut, it was a significant improvement on my own. For medium rare, it still had a tinge of pink. Although it was tough, it was definitely not as overcooked as my dish.
