Last weekend I went out with two friends to Milton to take a look at their markets. Not being overly captivated by the food that was on offer, we took a short trek to Park Road to find our dinner. Opting for Japanese that night, we settled on Rikyu, which we hadn't seen in the area before.
Going inside, we were warmly greeted by the staff, and offered a cool seat at the back of the restaurant under the air conditioner. Menus and water were provided very promptly.
The menu contained quite a few traditional options, including rice, noodles, sushi and set meals.
We started off with a plate of small sashimi. It came with a selection of salmon, kingfish and tuna. Whilst the kingfish was very fresh, the tuna and salmon were somewhat mediocre, and the slices were smaller than I would have liked.
My first companion ordered the Tempura Udon. The portion was quite generous, with a large bowl of udon, two prawns and a number of assorted veges. The tempura was freshly fried and piping hot, whilst the noodles were tender and soft. The clear soup was also very appetizing.
Another companion ordered the Salmon Shioyaki set. It came with quite a few sides including pickled veges, fresh salad, karaage chicken and some miso soup. The grilled salmon were very delicious, albeit a little small, but the sides ensured there was a large variety of options to go with the rice.
I ordered the Unadon. Whilst not a set, it came with a side serve of miso and salad. I really enjoyed the unadon, the rice was short grain and had a really good texture to it. The unagi was well marinated and caramelised very well and the flesh was very tender. The salad was very fresh and the miso was quite appetizing. The meal was very delicious overall.
