Without really trying for it, I realise that Adam and I have slowly gone to most of the brunch places in Brisbane's Cafe Central, Paddington. Last weekend, we found ourselves yet again on La Trobe Street on the hunt for some breakfast, this time at local favourite Chapter IV.
Arriving at 9am, the place was packed. We even ran into a few friends who had decided to brunch here that day too. Luckily our table was already reserved for us.
The menu was comprehensive and had quite a few standard and non conventional options. You'll be really surprised what I went for.
Starting off we had some coffee, he had his cold brew and I had my cappuccino. Both made for a good start to our rather decadent breakfast.
Our meals came quickly after our coffees did, testament to the efficiency of their well oiled kitchen.
Always one for the sweet option, he ordered the Coconut Waffles with nutella brownie ice cream, strawberry gel, coconut cannoli, chocolate brownie chunks, chocolate sauce and fresh strawberries. Trying some myself, the Belgian waffles were light and crisp with a fluffy interior. I found the brownie ice cream to be on the sweeter side, but perfect for Adam. The strawberries were fresh and delicious whilst the coconut cannoli was crunchy.
Normally I'd go for the classic eggs on toast option, but in this instance I simply couldn't walk away from the signature Soft shell crab benedict with grilled corn, succotash, avocado mousse, chimichurri hollondaise. Rather than turkish, I had the bread upgraded to a croissant and the result was as indulgent as it looks. The crab was generous in portion and very crispy, although the batter was a little thick. Chimichurri hollondaise was a spicy take on the original that I also enjoyed.
Espresso and Matcha got to enjoy this complimentary meal by freeloading off FoodieAdam's invite. But as always, my opinions are solely my own.
