We had another girls night the other week and decided to hit up another place on our list, Lalaland which is a Korean cafe and bar conveniently situated in Stones Corner. I forget why I had added it to the list but it had been there long enough that we decided to bite the bullet and finally try it out.
Arriving on a Saturday evening it was fairly quiet and there was only another table aside from ours. The menu was largely divided into two components, the buffet section and the a la carte section. Although I'm always passionate for fried chicken, we decided it would be safer to we opted for a variety from the a la carte menu instead.
The first to arrive was the beef bibimbap. The portion was fairly large and there was a good amount of toppings, however there wasn't too much beef in the bowl as I would have liked. The taste was fairly homey, albeit light and the veggies were fresh though.
Although we didn't get the wings buffet, we still craved fried chicken and ordered a serve of boneless chicken, half and half with soy garlic and snow cheese flavour. For a full size serving, it could have been bigger. The batter was fairly thick and crunchy but the chicken wasn't too juicy though, but at least the flavouring was quite good.
We also had a kimchi pancake. Having read some reviews earlier, I was expecting to be disappointed, but it was fairly delicious. It was at least not soggy, but well fried, albeit not as crispy as I would have liked. There was a good amount of spice and a generous amount of kimchi.
The final dish we ordered was the ginseng chicken. I was a little sceptical when we ordered it. It came in a massive clay pot, the chicken was cooked and served whole. There was not any rice in the middle of it, instead it was served on the side. Although wholesome and soupy, it really didn't have too much ginseng flavours to it but it did have a lot of garlic instead. We even picked out what we presumed to be ginseng root to try and extract some flavours from it but that didn't help much. I probably wouldn't be ordering this dish in the future.
