Despite going to Sunnybank Fish Market quite frequently, it had never occurred to me that 8 Chicken and Beer next door had closed. That is, until I noticed that Tasty Rumour had set up shop next door. Having had a fantastic experience with the food over in their Woodridge store, Dr L and I made a point to go and check it out as soon as we could.
The shop was very small with roughly half a dozen tables inside. We were lucky to get the only remaining table, so bookings are recommended if you are determined to eat here. The menu was more or less the same as woodridge and I was excited to see if it was just as good. Notably the rice noodles and pork broth wasn't on the menu though.
We ordered the half and half set with garlic pork hock and soy braised pork belly. It was served with an abundance of sides including lettuce, shredded cabbage, kimchi and an assortment of garnishes. The salads were fresh and crunchy, balancing out the meats well.
On the face of it, there was a lot more pork hock than belly, however under the pile of meat was a considerable amount of bone, so both dishes had a comparable amount of meat. Dr L liked the milder flavours of the pork belly, but I enjoyed the spicy garlic and fantastic gelatinous texture of the pork hock. Portions were generous and we could barely finish the set between the two of us. I am definitely keen to come back and try the other dishes with a larger group.
