Mid week lunch date and we decided to go and grab lunch at Goldfinch, a modern Mediterranean style restaurant at the Pullman Hotel. Quite a far walk from my offices, we really worked up an appetite walking over.
The environment was pretty spectacular with hanging potted plants with a light filled and relaxed vibe. Ceiling mirrors are also a great opportunity for taking selfies.
The lunch menu consisted of quite a few standard lunch options, most of which came with a Mediterranean twist.
Starting off with drinks, we always try to have one crisp refreshing option and a more indulgent option. For our first drink we had the Blood orange Mojito which had Havana Club 3yr, Lychee Liquor, Blood orange, Lime and Mint. It was tangy and delicious, I love citrus drinks. Our more decadent option was the Jaffa Martini with Vodka, Cointreau, Orange Zest, Gold leaf and Elixir Coffee. Even though we all know that gold leaf does very little by way of adding taste or flavour to any dish, it is undeniable that it added just that little bit of luxury to our drink.
It didn't take very long for our food to arrive, which was great within my confined lunch hour.
He had the Reuben, containing wagyu corned beef, sauerkraut, swiss cheese, pickles and dark rye served with a side of fries. Freshly toasted, he really enjoyed the melty cheese which glued the corn beef together with the sauerkraut. He found it to be filling and delicious.
Never forgoing a steak option, I had the steak and pomme frites, comprising of 250 gm sirloin, truss tomato, house slaw and onion relish.
As usual, I ordered it rare, what we got was more or less medium rare. The sirloin was meaty but a bit chewy, it was well seasoned with salt and pepper and the meat juices complemented the fries well. Although not exactly steak house quality, it made for a fairly tasty lunch. I particularly enjoyed the refreshing side of tomato and salad.
We also enjoyed a side to share, this was the blue cheese and caramelized onion arancini, herb aioli, parmesan with salsa verde. The arancini were a bit smaller than ones I've had previously but one side serve came with four pieces. The rice was tender and infused with tangy blue cheese, freshly fried and served on some cool aioli provided a nice temperature contrast.
Hardly ever finishing a meal without dessert, I let Adam choose both as he consumed them both barring my small bites of each.
First of the desserts was the Earl Grey Panna Cotta, mandarin, chocolate sorbet, blueberry, puffed rice. Trying some of the panna cotta, the flavour of tea was quite light and somewhat plastic-y and not as smooth as it could have been. The chocolate soil added a good texture to it, but the rice wasn't really puffed and was actually just hard and uncooked.
Our second dessert was called Textures of Banana, parfait, curd, candied, granola and blueberry. This was a far better dessert and I enjoyed the fruitiness of the banana in all its forms, the added tang of berries added some variance whilst the the granola added texture to finish off our meal.
Espresso and Matcha got to enjoy this complimentary meal by freeloading off FoodieAdam's invite. But as always, my opinions are solely my own.
