Was at Newstead for a work conference the other day, taking advantage of being in the area, I did some light research into some interesting places to try and stumbled upon Smokey Moo, which had moved from their old premises in East Brisbane.
The place was half full and we were easily able to get a table outside. Service was friendly but it took a while to get our waitress's attention at times.
As an American BBQ joint it had all the usual suspects, with a heavy emphasis on beef as you would expect.
Food came very quickly after our order, which was great. First to arrive was the Smokey Potato Salad. Although it wasn't all that smokey, it was still deeply satisfying. With a very rich sour cream sauce, light but fragrant herbs and tender potato, it made for a very good companion to our main course.
The highlight of our meal was the amazing Dirty Dozen, a signature platter of Smokey Moo. Comprising of Brisket, Pastrami, Cheek, Rib along with smokey sauce and chips, we were drooling from the moment it was set down. Each cut of meat was unbelievably tender and moist but my favourite would have to be the Pastrami for its added herbed flavours. I also really liked how the bone was taken out of the ribs so we didn't have to fiddle around with it. Additionally, the chips were generous and unbelievably crisp. Definitely a place to come back to in the near future.
