Was up at the Courts several weeks ago helping a friend out. The matter was adjourned and we ended up getting lunch a bit early before going back to work. Being on that end of town we decided to get a quick bite at the Criterion, which I had heard from friends in the industry was good quality for reasonable price.
The menu was as you would expect from local pubs with some standard mains and sides along with beers and other drinks on tap.
As with most pubs, we put our order through at the counter and got a number. Service was friendly.
Dr L as is expected had the seafood basket. It came with a selection of small fish fillets, prawns, scallops, calamari rings and chips, served with a side of coleslaw. This was served hot, crispy and not too oily. The seafood was fresh and went well with the aioli dip, the chips were also very crunchy. Trying bits and pieces of each, this is definitely one of the better fish and chips that I've had in town.
Not wanting to have anything that was too heavy, I had the ABC Salad. This comprised of lettuce, tomato, onion, bacon, chicken and avocado The portion generous and even though it was salad, it was filling. The flavours were quite complementary and there was just the right amount of caesar sauce to go with it. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area.
