Morning News Cafe - Brisbane CBD

Have seen considerable number of new cafe openings in the CBD lately. Decided to check out Morning News Cafe along Adelaide Street with Adam last week for lunch.

Situated near my old workplace on Adelaide Street, it made for a considerable hike up the hill, a reminder to me that I used to do this every day five years ago. This was particularly worse as the summer heat refuses to give up even though we are firmly within the realms of autumn.

Making it inside, we were afforded the cool luxury of air conditioning. The space was minimalist and bright with a light wooden furnishing.

Pastries and sandwiches looked particularly appetising in the cabinet. Perhaps we will finally make the leap and get something from the pastry cabinet this time.

The menu offered a broad selection of breakfast options, sandwiches, salad, pasta and baked goods, making it more diversified than your regular cafe.

Starting off with drinks, Adam had his iced long black whilst I had a mixed berry smoothie. His came out deconstructed in an espresso shot and a glass of iced water, we had great fun constructing it. My berry smoothie was fresh and fruity which we liked.

Food was quite prompt, always a win for the cbd lunch rush.

Adam tried their pasta special. It was a crisp tomato sauce pasta with shaved parmesean on top. Simple fresh pasta cooked al dente with fresh tomato sauce and cheese, always a delight for lunch. I only wish the portion were larger.

Always keen on comfort food, I had a breakfast option, eggs on toast with additional salmon and avocado. Although it was merely one slice of toast, it was a really large piece of toast. Eggs were poached wonderfully with a runny centre and the avocado was quite ripe. The salmon was also fresh and delicious, but the toast was a little harder than I would have liked.

To share, we also had a chicken baguette because we couldn't resist it when we saw it. The bread was wonderfully crusty on the outside and soft on the inside, the chicken was well seasoned and spinach was also delicious. For $6, it makes excellent value for money.

Finishing off with a cappuccino, it was definitely strong and enjoyable.
