Quick dinner before a mid week movie, not wanting to travel too far out of the CBD, but also wanting to try sometime new for once, we found ourselves at Fat Belly Jack's, the infamous best fried chicken in Brisbane. Of course we had to verify these claims for ourselves.
Arriving at around 5.30pm on a Wednesday, we were the only dine in customers, but there was a steady stream of delivery orders going out the door. As you would expect, the menu was obviously different variations of their signature Nashville Hot Chicken. We ordered two meals to share at the counter.
It didn't take long for our food to come out.
We ordered the Fat Belly Burger with a side of crinkle cut chips. The elements of the burger were executed to a high standard with a fluffy bun, fresh crisp salad and mildly spicy chicken with lashings of ranch sauce but it didn't stand out to me as particularly spectacular or different from the norm. The crinkle cut chips were crisp, but we would have enjoyed it more with some seasoning or dipping sauces.
We also had a serve of Chicken Tenders served with a side of slaw. I liked this more than the burger as the chicken had a bit more crunch to it. With four tenders in one serve, this was also fairly generous and I really enjoyed the tangy buttermilk coating. The slaw was crisp, creamy and crunchy, perfect as an accompaniment to some spicy chicken.
