Industry Beans - Newstead

Yes, we're a bit late to the ballgame but a couple of weeks ago we checked out Industry Beans for brunch. Having gone to the one in Melbourne, I was curious to see how the Brisbane one fared, but also didn't want to go too soon as I had heard a few reports of some teething issues, so I waited a few months before going.

Without a doubt the place was extremely popular, luckily the space was also huge and we were still able to get a table without waiting. Like their Fitzroy store, the theme was a mix of glaring white and timber.

There were quite a few contemporary brunch dishes on the menu, along with their large assortment of coffee. There was also quite a few pastries in the cabinet which we found particularly enticing.

Starting with drinks, we both had the bubble cup. Milky and sweet, it was a definite detraction from my usual choices. The sago made it look somewhat akin to boba, but for those who have had it, sago is a lot softer, smaller and tender than the chewy boba. Although unique and nice to try once, it's not a drink that I would be rushing back for.

Food came very fast. This was the Porcini Egg, comprising of a  Kohlrabi nest, porcini dusted egg, roast mushroom duxelle, artichoke hash, wild greens, seared mushrooms, spinach coral, cauliflower charcoal puree and truffle oil. It looked like a work of art on a plate, but was fairly expensive for what we got. The egg was poached well with a runny yolk, the nest was crisp and the roasted mushrooms fragrant. I did find that there was a bit more cauliflower puree than there was enough food to accompany it.

Not one to walk away from my default breakfast, we also had a serve of Eggs and Relish, Poached with beetroot juniper relish and sourdough served with a side of mushroom, avo and hash. Again, the price was very steep for what it was, but all elements were executed wonderfully. The avocado was ripe, creamy and rich, the hash was crunchy with a fluffy interior and mushrooms were seasoned wonderfully making for a really well rounded albeit decadent meal.
