Somewhat belated post, but last year, I attended a foodie gathering at the very popular Paddington Social along Given Terrace. During the daytime, the venue houses a bakery and cafe which sells out quite often and at night it transforms into a Thai pop up, which is what we had that night.
The restaurant was fairly large, and we booked out several long tables at the back.
The menu was varied, it had a strong focus on curry dishes and stir fries. We ordered via the counter.
I had a kombucha whilst my companion had a chocolate milkshake. He enjoyed it but found it to be fairly standard cafe fare with chocolate syrup and milk.
In terms of food, he had the Kai Jiew Gai Sup Radth Khao, a street style chicken egg omelet served with Sriracha and rice. He commented that it looked a little bit like a mushroom with the egg as a mushroom cap on the plate. As for the taste itself, it was definitely cooked a lot more thoroughly compared to our usual and had a very porous texture to it, which my companion didn't really enjoy, noting that it was similar to home made omelette.
Wanting to try something unique, I had the Lek's Mama Dtom Yum Noodle Soup, the spicy and sour MAMA noodle soup with crispy pork belly, calamari, prawns, and egg. While the toppings were really generous and there was a decent variety of seafood and veggies, I was really surprised that the noodles were the two minute variety which was a bit disappointing. The soup however had the right balance of sour and spiciness without overpowering the other ingredients, which I did like.
Rounding off, we had a Birds Nest Fruit Salad. It was odd in a way that although it although the majority were sweet elements of fruit salad, it had a few tempura prawns on top and was placed within a deep fried sweet potato nest, both elements of standard savoury dishes. Both the prawns and nest were crunchy though and it was a fairly enjoyable dish.
