Going through the list of some more Japanese places to try, next on my list was Momiji which had opened a few months ago at Newstead. Again, I hadn't seen much by way of social media about this place but had been recommended to try it by a friend. We headed over on a Saturday lunch.
The place was half full and I really liked the Japanese vibes of the setup. Service was quick and friendly.
As with most Japanese restaurants, the menu comprised of set meals, sushi and sashimi along with some side dishes. Of course, I picked a lot of sushi.
This was the Nigiri Set. For $22.80 it comprised of 11 pieces of nigiri and miso soup, making it fairly good value for money. The pieces were a little small, but the fish was fresh. Our favourite picks from the platter were definitely the sweet scallop and fatty salmon belly.
We ordered two other rolls to share, one was of course Salmon Avocado and the other was the Spider Roll. They had a generous portion of fillings when compared to the amount of rice. The avocado was soft and tender, whilst the soft shell crab was crispy and served warm. Definitely winners in my books and a place I will be coming back to in the near future.
