Betty's Burgers - Newstead

Rainy Saturday and Adam was in the mood for a burger. If he had it his way, he would have a burger every day ending in a "y". Thankfully he has a reasonably sensible girlfriend who values his health, so all things in moderation. Having said that, he hadn't had his fix for a while so we decided to check out Betty's Burgers, a popular burger store which has most recently been awarded one of Brisbane's best burgers.

The menu was typical of most burger joints, I would consider it to be most similar to Johnny Rockets but with more ice cream and less sides.

Ordering at the counter, we were given a buzzer.

Our drinks arrived first. I stayed healthy with a water and he had his peanut butter milkshake which he enjoyed but I found to be quite sweet and not overly peanuty.

Our food came quickly after. As a result of our meat heavy breakfast (steak and eggs at Campos), we tried for lighter options of a fish burger and chicken burger with a side of chips to share.

He had a Flathead burger which came with lettuce, tomato, fennel salad and house made tartare sauce. Stealing a bite of the fish it was flaky and crispy but somewhat blander than I would have expected but other fillings were very fresh.

My choice was the Southern fried chicken containing lettuce, tomato and Betty’s special sauce. I really enjoyed the milky bun which was soft, sweet and fluffy like the ones at Charboys. The chicken was hot and crisp but like the fish it was also not seasoned very much. The salad was generous and stuck a good balance in the burger much like the ones at Johnny Rockets, I really enjoyed it.

For dessert we shared the Chocolate Hazelnut and Donut Concrete, being frozen vanilla custard mixed in with a glazed donut, Nutella, hazelnut crumble topped with whipped cream. It was sweet, rich and had delicious and I love the chunky elements to it.
