Friday Bar and Restaurant - Sunnybank Hills

Was invited by the owners of the recently opened Friday Bar and Restaurant at Sunnybank Hills along Pinelands Road last Friday before our quick weekend away at Sydney for Vivid. Being situated at the complex above Oishi Sushi, I still fondly remember getting KBBQ at Goong here back in the day.

Arriving at opening time of 6pm, we were the first ones there and apparently most of their clientele are more the late night customers. The setup was dark and moody, we found the neon signs to be quite captivating and a great place for selfies.

As you would expect for a bar, the highlight was their cocktail menu. Trying both the fruit champagne and sea breeze. Adam and I really enjoyed sharing the fruit champagne, he liked the punchy fruit juices and I loved the bubbly champagne. Comparatively the sea breeze wasn't as sweet but packed a tangy punch of grapefruit and a lot higher alcohol content.

There was a main food menu which comprised of quite a few bar snacks, curries and Thai inspired food, but there was also a secret malatang menu which I had seen online and was keen to try.

Adam had the stir fried noodles with a selection of toppings and satay sauce. Whilst the menu indicates that it was stir fried, it was more mixed saucy noodles than stir fried. Compared to other malatang we have had in other places, there was no DIY element and other than ticking the ingredients we wanted on the form we had no control over the quantities we were given. The dough stick were crispy and crab sticks were tender, but we would have liked a bit more spice and peanut taste to the satay sauce.

I had the soupy malatang with a clear garlic soup as well as a mix of toppings. Again, due to the lack of control in selecting ingredients, I found there was a much higher abundance in veggies in the dish and seaweed but only a few slices of meat. Nevertheless, the veggies were fresh and crunchy whilst the soup erred on the lighter side and I would have preferred it to be stronger.

Espresso and Matcha were invited guests of Friday Bar and Restaurant, however as always my opinions are solely my own.
