Second installment in my adventures down Fudo Dori, this time Adam and I went to try out LuCha, the modern Chinese restaurant situated along Elizabeth street right next to Koto Sanpo.
Having heard of all the lunch time crowds and wait times, we made sure to get there early. Even at 11.45am, the place was already past half full and very busy. There was definitely an abundance of staff who were all very attentive throughout our experience.
The menu was extensive. There were pages and pages of drinks options, including the very popular bubble tea cocktails, which we didn't try that day as I had to go back to work after. As for food, they had a considerable amount of lunch specials and mains including rice, noodles, some sizzling plates and spicy pots. We went for some quick lunch specials.
Although not on the menu, there were quite a few desserts in their pastry cabinet. They looked adorable but had no description or pricing.
With the opening promotion of buy one get one free drinks we were sure to try some. I had the sparkling lime and mint green tea whilst Adam went for the classic pearl milk tea. What captured my attention was the sparkling element of my tea, but in fact there were no bubbles, although it was still crisp and refreshing and I would have preferred a little more mint taste. His pearl milk tea was very floral in taste, they probably used earl grey as a base and the pearls were definitely quite firm. Despite ordering both drinks at the start, mine came before the meal and his after. Not bad for drinks in a restaurant setting but not as good as the quality you would find in a stand alone tea place.
Our meal arrived fairly soon after. and portion sizes were definitely not disappointing.
He ordered the roast duck mixed noodle. The portion size was very generous with a good serve of duck and a lot of soya noodles with heaps of toppings. Whilst the noodles were well seasoned and we loved how it had an abundance of sprouts and mushrooms, the duck itself wasn't crispy and the meat was a little on the bland side.
I had a serve of roast pork noodle soup. The roast pork had a crispy skin but was fairly fatty, but it was well seasoned throughout. I also really enjoyed the clear light soup which really brought out the egg flavours in the noodles, however the noodles themselves were unfortunately a little on the soggy side. For the price though, it was still good value for money.
