Nothing is better in winter than a hot bowl of steamy noodles, except perhaps hot pot. Unfortunately hotpot isn't an option for quick work lunches, so hot noodles is the next best option. So with the grand opening of Iku Noodle Bar in Post Office Square, Adam and I decided to brave the crowds on opening day to check it out.
As expected, on a free noodle day, crowds were insane. There was a considerable lineup even to get to the counter.
At the counter, you choose your noodle order by picking size, type, protein and broth. Regular bowls sell for $11 and large for $14, which was definitely good value for the cbd.
As a side, there was also a selection of deep fried goods available at extra cost much like at mappen.
Our wait was over half an hour but we eventually got our noodles.
Adam had curry udon with beef. The curry was thick and flavoursome, the beef was fairly well done and the udon portion was somewhat small, even for a regular size but had great bounce to each bite. Needless to say he still had to get a snack afterwards.
I had the Soba with salmon and dashi. Comparatively I had a little more noodles and they were cooked fairly soft. Despite the photos available online the salmon was fully cooked through rather than raw on the inside. I did really enjoy the light and delicate sweet kombu and dashi broth though.
