Yolk - Newstead

Have seen a fair amount of photos of the recent addition to Gasworks Plaza, Yolk, online. Waiting a little bit for the crowds to die down before going to check it out, I went to catch up with a friend there for brunch last Saturday. Despite it being close to a month old, it was still extremely busy.

It didn't take much convincing why the place was so popular. With the standard price of brunches in Brisbane edging closer and closer to the $30 mark, this was a refreshing change. The menu was short and sweet, with a few breakfast roll options and a couple of non roll options.

Service was extremely fast, and we got a number for our table fairly quickly after.

Our coffee came out almost immediately after we sat down. Again, efficient service which I really enjoyed. My companion and I both ordered the batch brew, this was served hot and strong without the distraction of foam or froth, just the way I like it. The cups were also really adorable.

Again, testament to the efficiency of Yolk, our food came within five minutes of our coffees arriving, and it looked really amazing.

My companion had the Chicken Burger, comprising of buttermilk chicken, coral, american cheese, ranch and pickles in a roll. She really enjoyed this burger, especially the crispy chicken.

Having done a bit of research beforehand, I knew to try the signature Bacon and Egg roll, with cayenne pepper hollandaise for the extra kick. The day before going, I had a conversation with another foodie who had recommended that I get a side of truffle hash brown to put into the burger, but I had completely forgotten by the time I arrived, which means I have to come back and try again. The roll itself was light and fluffy, I like the sweet brioche shell. The egg and bacon were fried wonderfully, the cheese melty and sauce had just the right amount of zing in it.
