Whilst we had our first coffee elsewhere, it really isn't a breakfast for us working class without food to start our day. On our way out of town, we stopped at Sayers Sister, a popular cafe with an extensive breakfast menu to get our fix.
The theme of today was no doubt exposed brick. I liked the assortment of high chairs and squishy sofas. In the interests of comfort, we opted for sofas.
We loved the traditional cafe style menu with all our favourite brekky classics. Bonus points for having a customisable breakfast option, we can never say no to that.
Never satisfied with one coffee, Iron Fist had a second flat white, which he liked. Not wanting to overdo it so early in the morning, I gave it a miss and stuck to water.
Our food came very promptly. Of course we stuck to our usual build your own breakfast, a comfortable safe option when we were so far away from home.
Iron Fist had his usual of poached eggs (the best eggs :)) on toast, with a side of bacon and spinach. As you could see on his plate, one of his eggs suffered an accident and was popped by the bread. Although human error happens to the best of us, what matters most is how we manage afterwards, and it was dealt with wonderfully. Even without prompting, the waitress came out with a third egg, and apologised to Iron Fist for the egg and offered a replacement (which I ate). We really appreciated this attention to detail. Sides were generous in portion with the bacon having a wonderfully crispy edge too.
Switching it up a little from the norm, I had my poached eggs with salmon and mushrooms (finally realising that paying the cost of a side for a wedge of avocado may not be the most economical of choices). Toast was crusty sourdough with a soft interior. My eggs were poached perfectly with a runny yolk that I loved. Salmon was generous and displayed like a rose. I liked the tender grilled mushroom, added pesto was a real bonus too.
