Asked a colleague where to find some good coffee in Melbourne. Was told that there was one top secret hidden cafe literally across the road from work. She said that it was notoriously hard to find and insisted on drawing us a map to get there. I was skeptical at first, but taking a look down Guildford lane, I understood what she meant. Behind a nondescript old wooden door, hid Krimper, a popular but well hidden cafe.
Although you couldn't hear it from the outside, inside was bustling.
The drink menu was concise and tailored to serious coffee drinkers. Batch brew was considerably cheaper than what we normally get in Brisbane too, which was nice.
They had a selection of Maker beans for sale, obviously I picked up some for home.
Kitchen service was over for the day, but baked goods were available. As tempting as the chocolate chip cookie was, it will just have to wait for next time.
Trying something new, I had their filter coffee, Finca Villa Betulia from Colombia. The waitress told me to drink slowly and let it cool, as the flavours change with the temperature. This was indeed the case as it tasted a lot more peachy when hot, and sweetening to a rich cola like taste when cooler. It was definitely a coffee with depth and I enjoyed every last drop. Wish we had something like this in Brisbane.
