Espresso & Matcha's Epicurean Quest - Perth: Typika

Along our travels dealing with some matters in Perth, we were struck down by hunger pangs. Doing a quick search of good food nearby, Typika was the the most popular, so we pulled up there to get a quick lunch.

Being somewhat late in the afternoon, the lunch crowd had long gone and we had most of the place to ourselves.

As a popular coffee roaster, we definitely had to get a cup. Putting our orders in upon sitting down, we had our usuals. Both were very strong and milk was frothy. Especially liked how my cappuccino came with just the right amount of cocoa. Wish we had gotten some beans takeaway.

The food menu was interesting. For a cafe, it was definitely heavier on the meats, but not enough as a bbq joint. Although definitely western, there were also strong hints of eastern influences in some of the dishes.

Our food came fairly promptly, and I couldnt' help but feel we had slightly over ordered for a quick lunch.

As hungry as he was, Iron Fist ordered the Smokey BBQ Pork Ribs. A full rack that came served with both chips and coleslaw, it was a huge portion which he struggled to finish. Basting was strong, sweet and sticky. Luckily he managed to eat it without getting his hands dirty as the meat fell off the bone when cutlery was applied. Both sides were generous in portion, chips were crispy and seasoned well. Coupled with chipotle mayo, it was quite delicious. Coleslaw was refreshing and crunchy. For the price, it was good value for money.

Wanting a lighter smaller option, I tried the Angry Bird, a piece of crispy fried chicken, guacamole, corn and chive waffle with Korean sweet and spicy sauce, a combination so adventurous and out there that Adam would have been proud of. The taste was fairly epic too. Sauce was sweet and sticky, much not unlike the rib sauce. Chicken could have been crispier but had a delightfully moist interior. Waffle also had a fluffy interior and guacamole was surprising with corn bits mixed in with it.
