Espresso & Matcha's Delectable Tarriance - Melbourne: 5 & Dime

Last time we were in Melbourne we lived across the road from 5 and Dime, a New Jersey style bagel store in the heart of Melbourne CBD. With a glowing endorsement from Meatballs and Beef Cheeks, we made a point to grab breakfast there before our first appointment.

Inside, I really liked the glass window which allowed us to observe and appreciate how bagels are made.

The glass display also gave us a clear indication of the bagels available.

Other than picking a bagel, the menu had quite a few options for fillings, ranging from spreads to proper sandwich type options.

My companion and I got coffees and bagels to go, with his usual flat white and my usual cappuccino. Both coffees were served super hot (perfect for the cold Melbourne winter) and sufficiently strong to wake us up.

We both ordered the same bagel, the crunchy garlic, smeared with cream cheese. Whilst my companion had immediate regrets (we had super strong garlic breath for all our meetings that morning), I thoroughly liked it. The toasty bagel was warm, dense and very filling, the garlic on top was extremely pungent (just the way I like it), and deliciously crunchy. The amount of cream cheese in it was also very generous and both smooth and creamy.
