Espresso & Matcha's Saporous Expedition - Perth: Tuck Shop Cafe

After Sydney, I found myself back in Perth with my favourite superhero, Iron Fist. After a late night flight there, we found ourselves waking up earlier than usual (due to the 2hr time difference), and wandering the streets looking for sustenance. Doing some research on the run, I made the call to try out Tuck Shop Cafe, which is fairly popular locally.

Arriving just past opening time, we got a seat at the back of the restaurant, facing their background story, which gave our experience quite a bit of context.

The breakfast menu was very attractive, with traditional alternatives and some more modern variations on some of my favourites. The specials board was also captivated Iron Fist, which is why he made his selection from there.

Being one of the earliest ones there, our coffees came very quickly.

Iron Fist had his standard flat white

I had my usual Cappuccino. Both were suitably strong and creamy with a delicious nutty aftertaste which complimented the milk (I always prefer my coffee nutty over fruity where possible).

In terms of food, Iron Fist opted for the daily special - Cheesy Brioche Toastie with Leg Ham, Wholegrain Mustard, Bechamel, Parmesan and Fried Eggs. He opened up the toastie and immediately noticed that the main element, leg ham was missing. The owner immediately noticed this when he opened his sandwich and quickly whisked it back into the kitchen and had it redone very graciously. Iron Fist really enjoyed the sandwich, which was deliciously hearty, with well seasoned ham, fried eggs with a crunchy edge and runny yolk and strong sharp cheese on soft toasted bread.

Wanting my usual classic breakfast, I opted for a serve of Poached eggs with sourdough, and an extra side of bacon and avocado. It was executed wonderfully well, with the sourdough being quite dense and filling, lightly toasted with a soft interior. The bacon was deliciously thin sliced with a crispy edge without being overly hard, and the eggs had a good consistency and I appreciated the light sprinkling of herbs. The avocado was also well seasoned, and deliciously ripe, making for a wonderful start to our day.
